MONOLOGUES:

An Invitation to My Circus

Picture
A Seduction Inspired by actor and artist Sheryl Sutton

In the circus and in acting, there are intersections of sanity and craving. There are places that can swallow you as you drift into the space that can only be occupied by sideshow freaks and actors.  In the best of that disquiet Sheryl wants to lift the veil to truth, so you can waft in your desires yet still question them, to occupy that space with her. Will you be seduced?

Tomato

How do you say good-bye to someone you love? In New Orleans Sammie has to decide to honor her "Tomato's" wishes of a New Orleans tradition, one she would never have known about if not for her one true love who lured her in a way that Sammie never wants to end.

Jingle of a Moment

Picture
Positive thinking will make everything better – at least that is what we all hope.  For Hannah, who wants happily-ever-after with her hard working husband, Shane, positive thinking may no longer be the answer.  The economy has taken their construction company into the dark forest and their marriage is caught in the witch’s cauldron.  The only escape may sit in the jingle of a moment:  one phone call.  But what if Hannah is Rapunzel, stuck in the tower, and now she’s bald?

Lifting As We Climb

Picture
Inspired by Mary Church Terrell (1863-1954) . BIPOC activist who championed racial equality and women’s suffrage

In this commissioned piece, set on August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment ratification power, granting women the vote, sits with white Tennessee legislators. To appease them, white suffragists distance from BIPOC suffragists. Mary Church Terrell, National Association of Colored Women founding member, discovers this when asked to curb her suffrage activities. Now Mary must decide her future in the movement and relationship with women she trusted, answering: did these women break faith for their own sakes or for a perceived greater good?
