People often ask where my stories come from.
The truth is, they’ve always been there.
As a child growing up in the woods of the Northeast, I wrote skits for my friends and me to perform while our parents applauded as though we had just opened on Broadway. Long before I knew what a writer was, I knew I loved gathering people together through story. As a teenager, I discovered that stories gave voice to emotions and desires. Reading beckoned me into worlds far beyond my own and quietly whispered, You can build stories like these, too.
Eventually, those stories carried my voice to both the page and the stage.
I found joy not only in writing, but in what happens after I release my stories into the world. Whether through theatre, fiction, or film, I love transporting readers and watching an audience laugh together, fall silent together, or leave carrying a story that once existed only in my imagination.
Teaching is another chapter in that same journey.
Every student reminds me that storytelling is a conversation. My students challenge me, surprise me, and inspire me. I hope I encourage them to discover their voices; they remind me every day why I continue embracing mine.
I’ve been fortunate to find pieces of home in many places.
My hometown gives me roots: family who embrace this wild word-filled life, forests where shade feels like hugs, our furry children who serve as writing companions and daily reminders to run in the grass and play. Those roots sustained me through breast cancer, becoming sources of healing as much as inspiration.
The sultry heat of the Gulf South offered music, mystery, and my quiet courtyard where I wrote in the wee morning hours, convinced a ghost or two had wandered in to listen.
The luminous light of coastal New England welcomes me with an artistic family, midnight jam sessions on hidden decks, quiet walks home as waves tickle the shore, and conversations with lifelong friends that linger today.
Then there is the Midwest—the place I never expected to become part of my story. Yet it is.
Here I find belonging, wonder, and adventure. A place to laugh, teach, write, dream, and share life with a creative family I treasure.
I know my life is and always will be about stories.
The ones we write.
The ones we share.
The ones that help us understand ourselves.
And perhaps most importantly, the people who walk beside us while we discover them.
Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.
